And my 10yo granddaughter—her daughter— just learned that a collage she made in art class (different elementary school) has been picked to represent her entire school in a district-wide art show! #ProudMama #ProudGrandmother #ArtsAreEssential #kvelling #bragging (2/2)
Time to #kvell. My daughter, a 3rd grade teacher, managed to secure the only #Disney musicals grant in NJ (one of only 71 in the country) for 2025-26. She’s got 70 little kids doing a slamming version of The Lion King and has literally created a drama program at her school, where there was none before. An Lanntair: From April 2026, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar has indicated it intends to end funding for arts and cultural organisations across the islands – putting An Lanntair and other island organisations in real danger.
These cuts affect far more than performances and exhibitions. They impact education, language, wellbeing, local jobs, economic development, and community life across the Western Isles.
We need your voice.
We urge members of the public to take part in the current CnES budget survey and highlight the lack of financial support for arts and cultural organisations. Your voice matters – now is the time to act.
David Green, Chairperson of An Lanntair said:
“This process should have a wider scope than just CnES services delivered at its own hand. Benefits to economic development, education, language and culture are delivered by organisations that CnES has supported hitherto. Fund organisations that make life in the islands more attractive to residents and visitors and enhance the educational experience of young people. Support HebCelt Festival, An Lanntair, Taigh Chearsabhagh Museum and Arts Centre, for example. They make a little CnES funding go a very long way.”
Survey closes: Friday 23 January 2026
