In short, I find the story to be one of resilience and bravery in the face of abuse. It teaches us that we can solve our problems if we work together and care about each other, even when the enemy tempts us with moments of weakness, and then imprisons and enslaves us and tries to eat us. A good thing to think about.

This is a Western Snowy Plover. It is an officially Threatened species that can be found along the Pacific Coast in the Western US. It is a favorite of folks here where I live in Humboldt County, CA, in northern California five hours north of San Francisco.

It’s an adorable little puffball of a bird. They nest on specific parts of beaches that are easier to walk on, so they’re right in the middle of human and animal traffic. Bikes, hikers, animals… They easily become victims of a larger ecosystem that simply doesn’t see them.

Hi everyone, metaponeko’s owner here! I have some good news—the cancer screening results came back negative.
As for the polyp-like structure they found further inside, it didn't show up clearly on the MRI and didn't seem to have the typical features of a polyp. When they checked again with an ultrasound today, that structure had completely disappeared too!
Since my period just started yesterday, the doctor thinks that what we saw on the MRI might have just been some tissue starting to shed right before my period. I have a follow-up exam next month, but for now, the hospitalization is on hold. What a relief!
Even if something comes up in the next check-up and I need surgery, it sounds like if it doesn't have a stalk, they can just remove it easily with a suction device.
As for the original Nanko-ume plum-sized polyp that went missing during my last visit, it really seems to have twisted off on its own—it vanished without a trace!
The doctor was so surprised and said, "This usually never happens!" 😸🐰🐶✨

奥にあったポリープらしき構造物はMRIで見たところ不明。ポリープの特徴がなかったようです。
今日また改めて超音波で見たら、なんと構造物が消えていました！
丁度、昨日から月ものが来たので恐らく、生理直前で剥がれかけているお肉がMRIに写ったかも？と言う結果でした。来月に再審査ですが、ひとまず入院は見送りです。良かった！
もし、再審査で引っ掛かって手術になっても、茎が無ければ吸引機で吸い込んでおしまいみたいです。
前回の診察で行方不明になった南高梅サイズのポリープは本当にねじ切れたようで、跡形も無く消えていました。
「通常じゃあり得ない。」とドクターもビックリしていました😸🐰🐶✨

Long time no see! I wanted to share a little update about what’s been going on with metaponeko’s owner.
A cervical polyp was discovered recently, and it was about 2cm in size. Because of its large size, I was told I might need to be hospitalized and was referred to a university hospital.
The polyp had been dangling, but when the doctor at the university hospital examined me, it was completely gone! It feels like a little miracle—it probably just broke off on its own.
However, they did find something else that looks like a large polyp further inside. I’ve already had an MRI and a routine cancer screening, and we’ll decide on the hospitalization based on those results.
I really want to keep drawing, so I’ll be updating at a slower, relaxed pace this week.
I’m also planning to draw a comic about this whole polyp experience, so please look forward to it! 😸🐰🐶

お久しぶりです。メタポネコの飼い主に何があったかお話します。
子宮頸管ポリープが発見されました。大きさは2cmでした。大きいから入院と言われて、大学病院を紹介されました。
ぶら下がっていたのですが、大学病院で医者に見てもらったらポリープが無くなっていました。
多分、奇跡的に千切れたんです。
しかし、奥に大きなポリープのようなものが発見されました。MRI検査と一応ガン検査をしてもらっていて、検査結果次第で入院するか決まります。
描きたいから、今週はゆっくりペースで更新します。
ポリープについての漫画を描くので、それも楽しみにしてください😸🐰🐶

So the Humboldt Made folks posted this on their own social media accounts on platforms I don’t use anymore, so I thought I’d share it to the ones I do.

I made the poster for this year’s Friday Night Market in Eureka, California, USA, which is a weekly streetfair and farmer’s market that happens all summer. It features local music, artisans, food, and produce from all over Humboldt County in northern California.

It has been happening for many years, and is (at this point) a community institution. Humboldt Made is a big proponent of local makers, and are striving to find ways to push the fantastic goods made here onto a larger stage and wider markets. They’ve attended trade shows, invited grocery chains up to wine-n-dine them, and sponsored this event for the last couple years.

It has over 100 vendors, and I’m proud to say that I’m a gold member of the organization. Through it, I’ve made friends here in Humboldt County along the Redwood Coast, and been able to share my work in ways that wouldn’t have been possible if I’d remained in a larger urban area. My art practice has become a reciprocal expression of the community, where I take suggestions and then make art that expresses the personality and character of the region. It is a deep community experience that I never knew I needed in my life before moving here to the area a little more than a year ago.

So this poster means a lot. It has a lot embedded into it, as an artistic expression. It has a lot of meaning to me.

Three days ago, I visited a piano salon in Tokyo to update my ongoing exhibition. It seems the children are enjoying the art—two out of the six pieces displayed have already found new homes!
Currently, I’m also working on announcement postcards for my next exhibition at the end of next month. Every single one is being hand-drawn.
