Arthur Alexander is the second studio album by Arthur Alexander, released in 1972.

Review by Mark Deming

...Alexander been out of the public eye for a few years when he scored a deal with Warner Brothers and cut a self-titled album in 1972. Alexander had great faith in the project, which was produced by Tommy Cogbill and featured the cream of the Muscle Shoals studio players, along with songwriting contributions from Dan Penn, Donnie Fritts, and Alexander himself. Sadly, the album flopped in the marketplace, but a listen to the results confirms this was the fault of the promotion men, not the artists; hitting a mid-point between deep Southern soul and country-leaning funk,

"Sharing the Night Together" is a #popular song written by Ava Aldridge and Eddie Struzick. Originally recorded by #LennyLeBlanc and then #ArthurAlexander in 1976, the song was later a single produced by #RonHaffkine and performed by American rock band #DrHook from their seventh album, #PleasureAndPain (1978). #CashBox called Alexander's version "a languorous ballad plaintive, that should strike deep in the hearts of #RAndB, pop and #MOR listeners".

I love Dr. Hook's version of "Sharing the night together," because he really sounds like he's buzzin on this girl real bad. <grin>. > But #LennyLeblanc's version comes in at a close second with a slower groove. #ArthurAlexander's version, ... it gets the, It's okay," from me, but the other two are definitely better.

You Better Move On by Arthur Alexander, released on Dot in 1962.

You Better Move On Review by Ron Wynn

Arthur Alexander was a wonderful deep soul and country-influenced singer. He could express the urgency and longing of a soul artist and tell a story with the sensitivity and innocence of a great country artist. The title track as well as the other cuts on this greatest-hits work were his finest from the '60s. "Anna" and "You Better Move On" were turned into bigger hits by the Beatles and the Rolling Stones.

The Rolling Stones is the debut EP released by the Rolling Stones on 10 January 1964.

Bruce Eder of AllMusic writes: "The real centrepiece was Arthur Alexander's 'You Better Move On,' an American-spawned favourite that the band had been doing in concert — this was their chance to show a softer, more lyrical and soulful sound that was every bit as intense as the blues and hard R&B they'd already done on record..."
