The final in this 4 part series goes in depth on the glaze technique used ( 15 layers ) to create this light filled luminous effect in oil paint..

So we're finally here, the final part of my repainting of Clayton Crain's original art piece, from his Ghost Rider series. I've painted the whole painting primarily in oil, somewhat like the Venetian style of painting, which I felt would most emulate the effect of Clayton Crain's technique using Photoshop.
Now we're finally coming closer to the nitty gritty of this painting. In this part as specified by the title, I'll be detailing the materials and methods used in the dead layer for my repainting of Clayton Crain's Original Artpiece, from his Ghost Rider series. This part will be done exclusively in Alkyd's ( a lovely fast drying oil paint )
Liquin Fine Detail is still my preferred medium till today though I’ve adjusted how I use it depending on what results I would like.. This was a log of some preliminary experiments I did with medium ratios when I first tried it..

Testing out Liquin Mixtures for Medium (for first layer of dead layer) As this was my first time trying Liquin Fine Detail (which I found to be very different compared to the Original Liquin) I had to experiment first to learn the best balance of medium needed to suit my painting style.
A very short blog post on this from the archives that I've just imported to Substack!..
For them folks who missed previous updates I've recently joined Substack and am importing my archived blog posts there too!...

Any discussion about oil painting and medium would be incomplete without mentioning the FAt over Lean rule... The premise of Fat over Lean is that each successive layer needs to be fatter (usually meaning more oil content thus slower drying) than previous layers, so that the top layer does not dry faster than the previous layers.
This was one of my more ambitious attempts many years ago at practicing from the works of the masters..

Below I will be detailing the beginning stages of the Ghost Rider Painting (Clayton Crain's Original Artpiece) which I have attempted to imitate in Oils. The preliminary drawing was done on tracing paper first so that any mistakes or reworking could be done without worrying about effecting the actual final surface to be painted on (canvas board).
