So one random factoid is there’s a detective tagging along, Inspector Fix. They are played by Robert Newton, in his final film role.

A few years earlier, Newton played Long John Silver in the 1954 adaptation of Treasure Island. It was his exaggerated ‘West Country’ accent that popularised what we now think pirates sound like.

Wikipedia calls him the "patron saint" of the annual International Talk Like a Pirate Day.

The stats about this film are mind-boggling.

From Wikipedia:

According to Time magazine’s review of the film, the cast, including extras, totaled 68,894 people; it also featured 7,959 animals, "including four ostriches, six skunks, 15 elephants, 17 fighting bulls, 512 rhesus monkeys, 800 horses, 950 burros, 2,448 American buffalo, 3,800 Rocky Mountain sheep and a sacred cow that eats flowers on cue". There is also a cat at the Reform Club.

The film has momentarily turned into Indiana Jones And The Temple of Doom.

(Seriously, our foreign hero and his acrobatic sidekick are trying to save a woman from being burned alive by the Thuggee cult.)

Chase through a temple full of monkeys!

Monkey Temple!!!

There is a bullfighting scene and I have seen too many Jackass films to believe this will end well.

One thing old movies don’t disappoint with… sets and extras.

Hundreds of people on screen.

It would be pretty cool to travel across Europe via balloon.

Straight out of the gate I’m finding this pretty funny. Some dry satire about British upper class.

I am watching ‘Around The World In 80 Days’ (1956).

It has strangely started with an extended bit about ‘A Trip to the Moon (Le Voyage dans la Lune)’ from 1902.

I am of course now thinking about The Smashing Pumpkins.
