So I had started Armored Core 6, kind of not motivated to see it through.
It's certainly a good enough game, and does interesting variations to the formula we know and love, but I am in a strange space where I can't really enjoy games, it has been like that for a while.
Though it's definitely not depression, am able to continue Superman The Animated Series and enjoy it just fine.
It is however missing a certain grit, for lack of a better world, from previous entries.
Beyond Balteus, the next big wall in our way was actually quite a more massive one at that. The C-Weapon "Sea Spider" kicked the literal shit out of me for the better half of a day, whereas Balteus only took about an hour. Once we started to amass OS Chips, secret parts, and extra cash, we were able to more easily change up loadouts to better handle the big fights left to come.
The reactor fights, the other C-Weapons, all of them challenges, but never more of a challenge than these early fights.
The game is still absolutely my favorite in the series so far, although it makes me want to return to the rest of the series again, maybe someday we'll do a playthrough on 2, 3, & 4/4A...

I played Armored Core 6 on Xbox 1. What an odd thing that tutorial is after first level, unless I missed something.
Seems to favor aggression over caution, deleted first boss with sword slashes.
This time, I am more interested in the themes for once. I don't think there are any mecha anime that capture the vibe of this series, it's almost neo-noir equivalent of mecha?
As for how it runs, well only had to replay the first and now this one runs and plays like a dream.
I will say we may have started off strong doing our own thing for a while but at some point we found out how effective stance breaking was, and knowing that we began optimizing ourselves for a lightweight build that focused on stunning them, then switching over to a high fire rate weapon to dish out sustained damage until they recovered, rinse and repeat. This ended up taking the form of twin shotguns switching into twin gatling guns. Looking back it may feel like we cheesed quite a bit of the game but lemme just say that even with the cheese we still needed to be able to dodge punches and respond in time. The fights were still brutal at times given that this was still before the boss nerfs.
We were also on a slight schedule, as both Slooktober and Doomcember were quickly approaching, plus Baldur's Gate 3 had just dropped and we still had to get around to playing that for, uh... Well, we'll get to that.

Back when the game launched, Balteus was the big bad wall that people got stuck in, and it was also a bit of a wall for myself, but I also knew it was surpassable, same as any other Soulslike boss fight. The key was the loadout we ran with, given our limited availability to parts and OS Chips. It took me about an hour to finally scale that wall.
The next wall was the Super Cleaner smokestack Roomba, but all that took was better manoeuvring and the right amount of damage output. She didn't give me as much trouble.
This was a bit of the trend as we progressed through the initial New Game playthrough, and it wouldn't be until we went through New Game Plus and New Game Plus Plus that we starting hitting real walls again...

It didn't take us long before we dove headfirst into Armored Core VI's customization features, and oh man are there a lot of them this time around! Not only can you tweak several color channels and apply patterns like you could in previous titles, but you can now also apply various levels of both damage/wear/rust as well as the various levels of polish/reflectivity. On top of the fact that all of this is per part! Not only that, but you can even customize each arm/weapon separately, meaning you can have your rusty worn down junker parts mixed in with your shiny fancy attachments!
Needless to say we immediately made ourselves look like we do in Warframe, purple + bronze, baby!

I could tell right away that we were in for some hurt, that first helicopter fight was rough, and forces you to engage with AC6 on its terms, or else you will have a bad time. What I did find really nice was that you were just allowed to sell back any and all parts you owned for full price, so that you mix & match, experiment, and find a play style that works for you.
We were going to need it...

It's been a long time since we've stepped foot in an AC, and Fires of Rubicon felt like riding a bike! Not gonna lie, hearing "Welcome back, Raven" for the first time in over a decade hit different.
Such a fantastic entry to the series, with just the right amount of FromSoft difficulty up front, especially since we played this before the patch the nerfed boss fights, so buckle up because we have some pain ahead of us!

Just finished #ArmoredCore6 relatively recently between works.
I find it impressive that the game tells a very compelling and relatable story despite never showing the characters directly on screen.
