When I reread Armistead Maupin's "TALES OF THE CITY," I always picture Elaine's Minneapolis apartment as the one owned by trans heroine Anna Madrigal, and home to the other characters in the series. It's hard for the South to get things right from the start, because, ever since the Civil War, it has taught itself to equate righteousness with losing. "We must be right, y'all, because everyone else is against us." In my seventy-two years I have heard Southerners offer this excuse for everything from segregation to miscegenation laws to the 'religious liberty' currently invoked in the name of subjugating gay people. And in every instance, when the Supreme Court reminds them that decent people don't act this way anymore, they haul out the states' rights flag and brandish it in a Rebel-gray fog of amnesia.

The wonderful #NathanLane reading for #LettersLive. #LGBT #gay

"#ArmisteadMaupin's #TalesOfTheCity books chronicle the lives and loves of a group of unique people living in San Francisco in the late 1970s. Probably the most beloved of these characters is Michael 'Mouse' Tolliver, a gay man who in the second novel, discovers that his parents have joined Anita Bryant's campaign in Florida to quell the rights of gays. He later writes a letter to his mother."

Qu’elles soient cis ou trans of course
