The spike over the past year in confrontations at Drag shows and brunches has been a galvanizing force for some. Images of armed leftists defending such shows have done a lot for organizing, and while it's worrying how necessary such action has become, the trend of community defense is hopeful.
However, I can't help wonder what comes next. As more state governments are enacting bans on trans care and drag, the threat has escalated. What happens when the angry anti-trans mob appears outside a drag brunch, this time bolstered with cops? Does armed leftist defense dissipate with the threat of state violence?
We can't tolerate oppression like this, but how many blink in the face of such escalation? We need community defense more than ever, in whatever form it takes.

Despite the mythology that grew up around him James was not a folk "hero" to anyone other than the unaware or supporters of the Lost Cause myth.
James was a former confederate soldier who became infamous during the war for torturing Union Soldiers. After the South was defeated he and his cronies refused to accept defeat and their thefts and murder were specifically targeted at Northerners and those who supported emancipation.
