L'écaillage du sel

Un fin craquèlement soulève les écailles,
la nappe a reculé, la bête oublie l’horizon.
Dans la fissure, une racine grêle
cherche un peu d’ombre, pas d’eau.

L’argile se fend, le sel craquelle encore,
je vois la terre qui perd son nom.
La soif persiste, l’ombre se dérobe,
la fissure attend, la racine tremble.

Chris Lanooy 1881-1948 was the first studio potter in the Netherlands.
Sadly the Netherlands is a country with a very limited sense of history. His name is now unfamiliar to most people working in ceramics and his work is not very well represented in museum collections.
