**Tony Sympson, Jeffrey Gardiner.** Very, very funny episode. Blessed with 2 hilarious guest characters and a new regular (played by Alfie Bass) who knows a bit too much about Captain Peacock’s years in the military. Driven by the characters and the rules of conduct inside Grace Bros., this one is laugh-out-loud funny from start to finish. Delightful. 9/10

**Michael Halsey.** Starts off strong–in 8/10 territory–with good gags driven by the birthday celebrations of Young Mr. Grace. Gradually becomes just another episode where everyone dresses up in silly costumes when the gang puts on a ballet. 7/10

**Jan Holden (Agony).** Captain Peacock is temporarily “demoted” to work the men’s counter under Mr. Tebbs when Mr. Humphries is moved to a new perfume stand. Another script that takes the show away from its overreliance on mechanical props and silly costumes. Humour comes almost exclusively from character and the hierarchy inside the store. Peacock being way smarter than Mr. Rumbold, for instance, is a source of many laughs. 8/10

Quite a few laughs in this one. In fact, the script is reasonably sharp. Not that you’d know it by the studio audience, who appear to have slept right through a few decent gags in the first half. Sales are down, so someone has to be fired. Plenty of scope there for everyone to turn on everyone else. With its nods towards class structure, this feels like a script from one of the earlier/better seasons. There’s no silly dressing up in this one. But there is a prop gag with a wonderful payoff. 7/10
