The RCMP schooner RCMPV St. Roch is a Royal Canadian Mounted Police schooner, the first ship to completely circumnavigate North America, and the second vessel to transit the Northwest Passage. Heute vor 170 Jahren starb in Bad Ems Kapitän Sir William Edward #Parry, der auf der Suche nach der #Nordwestpassage 1819-1820 mit den Schiffen Hecla und Griper im Polarmeer überwinterte. Auch in Deutschland wurde das seinerzeit diskutiert: die Berichte regten Caspar David Friedrich zum berühmten Gemälde "Das Eismeer" an, und Fürst Pückler reiste 1827 nach Deptford, um Parrys Schiff Hecla zu besichtigen.
