#ThrowbackThursday #TBT 8 years ago today we were in #Donostia/#SanSebastián. I don't have many photos from that visit, but I do have a worthy contribution for #Doorsday! 😅

This is the #Basilica of Saint Mary of the Chorus (𝘒𝘰𝘳𝘶𝘬𝘰 𝘈𝘯𝘥𝘳𝘦 𝘔𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘯 𝘣𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘢 or 𝘉𝘢𝘴í𝘭𝘪𝘤𝘢 𝘥𝘦 𝘚𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘢 𝘔𝘢𝘳í𝘢 𝘥𝘦𝘭 𝘊𝘰𝘳𝘰 to the locals). It's considered the oldest #church in the city, though this particular structure dates from the mid-1700s.

I said :
I’m carrying the Olympus Trip 35 in my pockets again.
It’s a very pleasant little #camera, and it had been quite a while since I last used it.

My daughter suddenly found a job in Antwerp, so we had to visit the city quickly and find a room for her. We managed it all ! And on that day, we walked through the entrance to Chinatown, a beautiful #archway with the central station in the background. Worth a click.

Usually I carry a half-frame camera with me, but during these dark grey days in Belgium I just don’t manage to fill those 72 frames quickly enough.

#Katharinenportal for #MonochromeMonday

This #Baroque portal in #Magdeburg once belonged to the medieval St Katharine's Church (St.-Katharinen-Kirche). The church, destroyed during the Thirty Years' War and rebuilt in the 1660s, was gutted by fire in the Second World War. Despite this, its ruins provided shelter to many in January 1945 during the city's most devastating bombing raid.
In the 1960s, the ruins were demolished, as socialism had no place for religion. Only this fragment of the church's west portal remained. The sculpture of St Catherine (Katharina in German) was relocated to another church, while the portal itself was stored by a construction company.
In 2016, the portal was restored and reinstalled near its original location on #BreiterWeg, one of Magdeburg's main avenues. Today, it stands between modern shops and high-rise buildings. Poor Katharina may seem out of place here, but she serves as a poignant reminder of the past and the history she has witnessed since her creation in 1668.
