Was on #lemmy recently and everyone is trying to convince everyone to change to their favourite Linux distro.

And it dawned on me that the Linux community is like a religion with many sects, and members of each sect keeps trying to convert the heathens to their sects.

Anyway, I use Arch, which I suppose makes me a fundamentalist.

Any opinions on systemd and age verification here?

I'm thinking about switching from #ArchLinux to #ArtixLinux, but I fear having to dig into a number of new topics while doing so... does someone have any experience / advice on how to prioritize this topic?

Linux distributions for Beginners

I was asked many times over the last years which Linux distribution I would recommend for beginners. I always answered that they should try out multiple ones and choose the one that they like the most.

But, for the people that don't know where to start with that, here is my list of Linux distributions I would recommend for beginners in the Linux world.

Linux distributions for Beginners

So last night, I decided to try UTM on the iPhone. UTM worked. JIT worked. I got Arch Linux, booted it up, and... Even on the console, the only thing that covered the screen was a text field. Screen recognition showed the startup of the machine, but that's a lot of reading the same thing over, and over, and over again. But I stuck with it. For like a whole hour I updated pacakged, and installed espeak-ng.

And it worked. It spoke. So then I installed Emacs. That worked. TCL. That worked. But TCLX did not. Because I don't know I guess it's too old for Arch. Then it was like 4:30 in the morning and I gave up. Besides, espeak-ng test took like half a second to speak. Ugh. Ah well. I guess I'll just have to wait for Android's Braille support to improve. Meh. So much meh.

#ArchLinux got #Gnome 50 and now I have this problem again, because xwayland-native-scaling is no longer an experimental feature.

GNOME 50 is now available for Arch Linux users, bringing the latest desktop release to systems ready for upgrade.

If anyone has experience installing #archlinux on #openzfs #zfs, I could use some assistance getting around the kernel 6.15.2 dependency for zfs-utils. I am using the archzfs repository.
