I've been listening to some post-metal the last few days. This picture I took of a foggy wooded area on a small island fits the mood that this style of music creates. The sounds of the wind, waves, waterfowl and smaller birds in the forest canopy, along with the fresh air and twilight, give the mind room to wander. Some of the same atmosphere can also be achieved from home through music, although of course something is missing when the connection with nature is not as strong.

This is an American mink, a harmful invasive species in Finland. It preys on the eggs of many water birds, which haven’t naturally evolved defenses against such a predator in the Finnish archipelago. To control its population, mink hunting is actively encouraged.
I took this photo in the Turku archipelago a couple of years ago. The mink was playing on the ice, rolling in the snow, climbing on the rocks, and diving into a hole it had made in the ice. Despite being an invasive species, it’s undeniably an adorable animal.

As the days are getting longer, I'm starting notice how I miss the sea. This picture was taken on the island of Jurmo, which is located in the Archipelago Sea. It is the most beautiful archipelago in the world, if you ask me.

I photographed these Northern Lights last spring in the Archipelago Sea. The dark forest on the small island, with the restless sea surrounding it, made the experience of watching the auroras even more breathtaking.
