Aid workers saved thousands of priceless archaeological artifacts in Gaza from destruction last week after Israel targeted the warehouse building in a strike.

Village Kastri was originally built directly on the ruins of the ancient Delphi. It was relocated in 1892 by 300 meters to the west in order to allow excavations and protection of the ancient site. The new town was built on the slopes of Mount Parnassus at an altitude between 450 and 530 meters with amazing views of the valley below. It was renamed (modern) Delphi.

Sunset at Preah Enkosei Temple
ប្រាសាទព្រះឥន្រ្ទកោសីយ៍, Siem Reap.

It is regarded as the ancient Khmer temple closest to modern Siem Reap city centre. Preah Enkosei is between the modern Wat Enkosei and the necropolis of this pagoda and monastery area.

Preah Enkosei was built as a three tower Hindu temple appx 950CE. The entrance Gopura is flanked by small lion guardian statues. The Gopura have an anteroom with a lingam and is placed on the remains of a laterite wall running partly around the perimeter. There are two "library"-building remains flanking the gate on the inside.

The southern tower is marked by a platform only. There are discussions going on if it was ever built, never finished or for other reasons demolished before modern excavations started.

This temple is close to Siem Reap River, and it is an excellent target for an easy afternoon stroll along the river. It should take appx 30-35 minutes’ walk from Siem Reap city centre.

Or 10 minutes by bike.

Visitors do not need Angkor Pass, but this is still a functioning wat and pagoda area. Please act respectful entering this holy place of worship.

(EN below) 🇫🇷 Retour d'expédition archéologique en Albanie. Le campement des fouilles se situe à 700 mètres d'altitude dans la région de Koman. Levé à 4h30 du matin pour éviter les canicules à plus de 40°. Au programme : jardinage de cailloux, coloriage, pétules et autres précieux matériels archéologiques sont extraits des tombeaux.

Mon diplôme d'Architecture du Paysage et d'Urbanisme de Genève c'était déroulé sur un autre site archéologique, à Vlöre, dans le sud du pays en 2012. Par la suite, j'ai suivi l'équipe d'archéologues durant 3 années en tant que dessinateur, en plus de mon travail en bureau d'architecture.

Voilà 10 ans que je n'étais pas revenu ici, et autant vous dire que, malgré le peu d'activités extra-scolaire ; en effet, il n'y a ni poney, ni piscine en activités proposée l'après-midi ! Cette mission de fouilles fut un plaisir.
