The Iron Age Oppidum d’Entremont site outside Provence was discovered and excavated in the 1940s. Found amongst the ruins were a variety of stone heads. Some had sat on the shoulders of statues, but others are meant to be severed heads. They would have been held or possessed by sculpted figures to demonstrate their strength and prowess in battle. #archeaology #ironage #sculptures

Reading about Gobekli Tepe reminds me of an old fascination of mine: namely that we still don't know how the heck ancient peoples moved and precisely placed the 800-1000 ton Temple of Baalbek Trilithon stones. I mean, it would be incredibly hard/maybe impossible to move those things *today*.
