"Can eating less beef and dairy help save the Colorado River?"
What a question. Yes it can.
"Nearly half — 46% — of all the water drawn from the Colorado River goes to growing feed for beef and dairy cows"
But it is not the cows that drink all this water. It is the hay grown for the cows to eat that takes all that water. And this hay it is grown in one of the hottest deserts on Earth.
(and don't forget the wetlands that were destroyed for those hay fields).
And according this article, one farmer sell 30% of that hay to China and Saudi Arabia. I am sure he is not alone in that.
Maybe while we are letting our lawn die, and planting native plants and home grown veggies, being good citizens, we should think of advocating for laws that prohibit dwindling resources necessary for life being sold to the highest bidder.
