✨ From old to roots to 'roads✨

This old wardrobe has found its new home in my Appalachian office. Once part of a matched suite in someone’s bedroom nearly a century ago, now it will hold #genealogy #books and decades of my research of my Appalachian family and history. It is ready to take it's place and store my little treasures of Ancestry Roads.

With its cabriole legs, deep wood tones, and quiet history, it feels right at home here in the mountain but I am convinced this was built in the Midwest. I bought it over a decade ago during an auction of from Detroit. It used to store my sons Skylanders and video games.

I think the Queen Anne legs and veneered front panels place this in the Depression era to post-war period.

Probably one of the last full blooms until I decide where to transplant this rose bush and four others. They are up against the front porch that is getting renovated and these will get trampled.

But what a beauty to behold. Someone must of known I love pink roses.

🚧 Big changes in the bungalow! What was once an *outdoor porch wall* (with the power box exposed to the elements) is now being framed in to become a **new private bathroom**. 🛁✨

That meant moving the power setup and shutting off the electricity for a bit which means I might actually read a book vs surf the web. But it’s all part of turning this old mountain home into something fresh while keeping its character. 🏡⚡

Every project feels like a step closer to making this century-old place a dream retreat in the Blue Ridge.

✨ In Appalachia, carports are more than just a place to park. They’re part of everyday #mountain life. Over the years, rain and mud wore this one down, but now it’s getting a fresh start. 💪 We ordered **3 tons of gravel** and that wasn't enough for the other carport to get it looking good again too.

From trucks to tractors, these simple structures keep the weather off what matters most. 🚗🌧️ Sometimes it’s the little upgrades that make a big difference in mountain living and to make your property look nice. 🏔️

✨ Preserving history, one brushstroke at a time ✨

This 100-year-old wood siding has seen generations come and go here in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The boards are worn, weathered, and imperfect just like the stories they’ve held. I've just started to research those families and their #FamilyStory while tracing their #FamilyTree.

Instead of covering that past, we’re honoring it. A fresh coat of "Cottage White" brightens the old bones, but the history still whispers through every crack and knot in the grain. I tried to do only one light coat with a larger nap roll on brush so some of the knots, grain, and worn wood might show.

Life in an #Appalachian #mountain #bungalow means holding onto what came before while making it livable for today. This will become my Mom's bedroom. Every coat of paint is a promise: that these walls will keep standing strong, carrying our memories forward into the next hundred years. 🏡🎨

How is your Saturday going?

We are sipping Cheerwine, rocking on the porch, and soaking up those mountain breezes 🍒✨ Nothing says *weekend in the Southern Appalachians* like a glass full of ice, a view of the hills, and the sweet sound of cicadas in the evening.

Here’s to slowing down, front-porch living, and a little taste of Carolina tradition. 🏡🌄

When you renovate an old house, patience is required. 🏡✨

Today's twist? We’re gaining a #bathroom but had to remove the #window to create a #door. The bedroom-to-bathroom pass-through is becoming closer to reality. A paneled barn door with frosted glass will allow for fresh light to pour in. 🌞

It’s funny how every change tells a story — one additional bathroom but different view out the window. And in this little mountain #bungalow, every ray of light feels like gold. 🌿
