Why did it take 70,000 dead? It’s also worth noting how rarely so-called left-wing #US politicians visit Europe. Perhaps it’s because they’d be exposed to the kind of scrutiny and accountability that comes with facing an audience less tolerant of double standards and complicity in human rights violations.

Subject: Canada Dual Citizenship

I posted yesterday that I'd decided to at least look into U.S. #Canada dual citizenship. I mentioned that one factor was that I'd had enough of #MAGA and #Trump. I received a few negative remarks, as I'd expected, but I was surprised to see that they were from #Democrats who felt that I was offering support to the #Republicans by talking about this. This despite the fact that I'd be far to the Left of the people who wrote.

I'd ask Democrats who, for reasons that aren't clear, object to me leaving to understand that I was being called a "Commie" before most of them were born. If I questioned Reagan's determination to get us into a nuclear war, I was told to "go back to Russia". The irony of that, of course, now that Donalid #Trump is all but the bed partner of Vladimir Putin, is palpable.

The point is that I don't owe people who weren't even born in Reagan's time the right to demand that I pass a Purity Test or that I apologize for failing to trust Democrat leadership as it stands.

If #AOC becomes President, that will be different. It'll be such a breath of fresh air. [I'm actually thinking about breathing right now since I'm technically in a medical emergency as I write this. I'm writing while I'm waiting to find out how oxygen is supposed to be delivered to me. 75-25 that it'll take another day.]

But I stand by the feeling that after the Democrats take back the House this year -- and possibly even the Senate -- they'll fail to be aggressive enough to lock things in.

For example, I cite the name Merrick Garland. The Garland case was enough by itself to justify a Democrat move to expand the Supreme Court to add multiple Democrat Justices. Donald Trump has, additionally, behaved like an orange bull in a china shop and has smashed the idea of judicial restraint to pieces. The idea of judicial restraint is dead. It's no justification for holding off on any step that is possible. The Democrats should have packed the Court before and they should do so at the next opportunity.

Related note: The odds that the House turns Blue in November are 85%. It's actually close to 50-50 now that the Senate falls to the Democrats as well. So, there is a real chance that the Democrats will get one more chance to do that which is right.

Trump in prison for life. Murder trials for ICE and dismantling of the organization. A war crimes trial for Hegseth. An expanded Supreme Court. Lock-in of voting rights to the extent that they can never be questioned again.

Most of all, steps to ensure that an incarnation of rape, sex with children, obstruction of justice, insurrection, and visceral hatred of skins that are not white is never permitted to rise out of the sewer again.

It's possible. It's also likely to be the last chance.

Let's be clear. Trump, the dark side of humanity, the part of us that Christ is ashamed to have hiding in his genes, is going to come back. Not the orange toad, but an avatar of the ape that is lurking in us.

Hitler, the would-be god. #Reagan, the grinning skull, presently gnawing on poor children in Hell. Trump, the rapist. There will be another. Until the ape side is confronted and dealt with once and for all, it's always going to come back.

Wherever I am, and while I can, I'll do what I can. But I do have concerns about Social Security failing as well as the rest of it. I'll answer questions, if possible. But I really don't owe anybody a justification of whatever decision I make.

Grace was born in Saskatchewan. So, I can qualify for dual citizenship by getting a copy of her birth record.

One thing for would-be dual citizens to know is that the law in Canada protects birth records there. However, they and I can obtain birth records by demonstrating enough of a relationship with the parties whose records are sought. In my case, I'll do that by producing a copy of my own birth certificate.

So, I made my first call to a Canada dual citizenship support firm today. I had a pleasant chat with a partner who said that, yes, there has been a major uptick recently in U.S. citizens who are seeking to get out of the U.S. It's related both to Donald Trump and to changes in Canadian laws related to citizenship.

The partner added that Canada is more like Europe than like the U.S., it's quieter than the U.S., nicer in general, and there is more of a social safety net than in the U.S. One counterpoint is that the taxes are higher.

The partner at that firm who onboards new clients is visiting Japan. But I think that I'll follow up with her after she returns in 1 to 2 weeks.
