#Russia bomber drones killed an elderly woman Lora herding goats in #Antonivka, #Kherson oblast’ of #Ukraine - the attackers saw pretty much the same detail as the Ukrainian recon drone that recorded the outcome of Russian attack, so they knew who they are attacking.
If you wonder why would Russians attack random civilians in #Kherson, there’s a few possible answers. Firstly, they declared Antonivka a “red zone” where all movement is “forbidden” under their made up rules, and “everything is a legitimate target”. That’s simply a pretext for them to terrorize the population of Kherson which they cowardly abandoned in 2023. Secondly, Russian army in Kherson area is now pretending to conduct an “offensive” on Kherson where they claim they control the islands on Dnipro river that separate the left bank they actually control from the right bank where Kherson is located. Presence of random civilians roaming on the banks of Dnipro is not comfortable for them as they may reveal reconnaissance groups that sail on Dnipro and might get onto the right bank.
While Ukrainian police conducts mandatory evacuation of civilians from parts of Kherson, many elderly people simply refuse to go. Ukrainian police leaves them alone, but Russians clearly aren’t as nuanced in their methods. If presence of civilians is a problem for them, they simply kill them (as they did in #Pokrovsk yesterday).
P.S. I’ve watched an interview an American Ukrainian journalist Zarina Zabrisky conducted with Lora a few weeks ago - she spoke Russian. So much about “protecting the Russian-speaking population” that Kremlin uses as their primary pretext for the invasion…
