Antonia Liskova viene dalla Slovacchia (“Bojnice, un villaggio in campagna. Un posto magico, c’è il castello dove girarono Fantaghirò, dietro le transenne vedevo Kim Rossi Stuart”), ma ha un nome italiano, “perché mia nonna ebbe una storia d’amore con un partigiano italiano ferito, di cui si prese cura”, spiega al Corriere della Sera. L’attrice racconta la propria vita a partire da un’infanzia difficile segnata anche dal rapporto non esattamente idilliaco con il padre.
Il difficile rapporto con il padre
“I miei erano operai, mio padre era anche un musicista sgangherato. Alcolizzato, si tolse la vita“, le parole di Liskova, che rivela: “Non avevo un bel rapporto con lui, a Babbo Natale scrissi una lettera pregandolo di farmi risvegliare maschio, così papà mi avrebbe accettato. Eppure non pensavo potesse causare tanto dolore perderlo”.

L’arrivo in Italia coincide con il compimento dei 18 anni. Lavora come cameriera in pizzeria per guadagnare soldi in modo da aiutare la sorella più piccola, poi diventa modella e l’occasione per fare l’attrice si presenta quando accompagna un’amica a un provino. Come nella migliore delle tradizioni, però, la parte non va all’amica, ma all’accompagnatrice, ovvero la stessa Liskova: “Lei non volle più vedermi, disse che avrei dovuto rifiutare” ricorda Antonia, prima di condividere aneddoti sul suo arrivo nella Capitale: “All’epoca ero extra comunitaria, da adolescente ho vissuto il regime comunista, ricordo quando, dopo la caduta, rimisero il crocifisso a scuola”.
E ancora: “L’Italia… Se sei una bella ragazza dell’Est devi dimostrare il triplo di qualità. Gli uomini volevano manipolare la ragazza sperduta, le donne pensavano che fossi venuta a sedurre. Non fu una passeggiata”. “Ho faticato” ammette, “ciò che ho conquistato l’ho meritato”. E oggi ha raggiunto nuove consapevolezze: “Non mi tocca più il giudizio altrui. Da tanto tempo qui mi sento a casa”.

Antonia Liskova comes from Slovakia (“Bochnice, a village in the countryside. A magical place, there’s a castle where Fantaghirò filmed, behind the barriers I saw Kim Rossi Stuart”), but has an Italian name, “because my grandmother had a love affair with an Italian partisan wounded, of whom she took care,” she explains to Corriere della Sera. The actress recounts her life starting from a difficult childhood marked also by the not exactly idyllic relationship with her father.

“My parents were workers, my father was also a chaotic musician. Alcoholic, he took his own life,” are the words of Liskova, who reveals: “I didn’t have a good relationship with him, on Christmas I wrote a letter pleading with him to wake me up as a boy, so my father would accept me. Yet I didn’t think he could cause so much pain losing him.”
The Audition (which, as always, goes badly for the interested friend)
The arrival in Italy coincides with the completion of 18 years. She works as a waitress in a pizzeria to earn money in order to help her younger sister, then becomes a model and the opportunity to become an actress presents itself when she accompanies a friend to an audition. However, as is the case with the best traditions, the part doesn’t go to the friend, but to the accompanying woman, namely Liskova herself: “She no longer wanted to see me, she said I had to refuse,” remembers Antonia, before sharing anecdotes about her arrival in the Capital: “At the time I was a non-urban girl, as a teenager I lived under the communist regime, I remember when, after the fall, they put the crucifix back in school.”
And still: “Italy… If you are a beautiful girl from the East, you have to demonstrate triple the quality. Men wanted to manipulate the lost girl, women thought I had come to seduce. It wasn’t a walk in the park.” “I struggled,” she admits, “what I have achieved, I have earned.” And today she has reached new awareness: “It no longer touches my judgment of others. For a long time here I feel at home.”
