Gorizia and Nova Goricia, a double city across borders, are the "European Capital of Culture", this year. (A shared honour with Chemitz in Germany.)

The former Hungary-Austrian city of "Görz" at the centre of the Isonzo battle series during WW I is now peacefully celebrating. What an achievement!

We should not, however, forget that the Italian right-wing parties always took issue remembering the horrors of war. Like with the now-famous song "Gorizia tu sei maledetta" - "O Gorizia your are damned", here in the version of the band "Malincka":
