Hello I am Seal (he/they but preference for he).
I'm a #queer #anarchist in #berlin I'd say I'm an anarcho-communist and a syndicalist.
I like #drawing #music and long one-on-one conversations.
I'm particularly passionate about #antipsychiatry because it relates to prison abolition, queer liberation and #antiimperialism . Hierarchy is a difficult thing to fight as it seeps throught everything everywhere, which is why we should be cautious and alert!

I'm #neurodivergent and chronically ill (i have a few invisible disabilities). My queerness is related to my neurodivergence and I am not ashamed of it. I identity as mad/crazy.

In 2018, my Dad passed away, and I went to India. As I was kneeling by his dead body, grieving, my brother thrust a bunch of blank sheets of paper in front of my face, and said, "Sign these. They are for the division of property, and I need your power of attorney. It's just a formality." I was not thinking clearly at this point, and trusted him enough to sign the blank papers.

In 2022, I was visiting India again, and my brother and my mother told me that I was not getting anything out of my Dad's inheritance, and that I had signed it all over to them. This came as a shock!

I returned to America, and saw an American psychiatrist. She told me that I seemed fine, and tapered down my pills to zero, over some time, under her periodic supervision.

Immediately, my thinking cleared up. A mental fog lifted. Suddenly, I was thinking as lucidly and effortlessly, as I am used to, as I did in 2008, 14 years ago.

Since then, I fell out with my mother and brother. When I fell on hard times as a whistleblower, they would not help me. My brother was drinking expensive whiskey over a video call, as he refused to lend me even $30. He said he had a party to go to.

Later, when I had been homeless and starving for days, he agreed to give me $1000 , after demanding that I email him, saying I would drop the matter of Dad's inheritance.

I want to warn people against Dr. R. N. Sahu and his psychiatric malpractice.

Reading a paper surveying the history of #antipsychiatry, I notice the same defensive tone I found so off-putting in right-wing criticism of leftist political literature: lots of “ironic” quote marks and barely disguised disparaging comments that are borderline ad-hominem fallacies. The line of reasoning is defensive of psychiatry itself rather than curious about how critique might improve treatment for the individual. #psychiatry #mentalhealth

I finished reading The Lathe of Heaven by Ursula K Le Guin. I had watched both movie adaptations a little while ago. The premise is that a man named George Orr has dreams that alter reality. He is afraid of this power, so he abuses drugs to try to stop the dreams. He gets into trouble with the government after this, so he is assigned a therapist, Dr Haber. But when Haber realizes what George can do, he starts hypnotizing George so he can manipulate his dreams and reality. He dreams himself into a famous and powerful researcher. But the dreams usually go wrong in some way. Haber tells George to dream of peace on Earth; this leads to a war with aliens over the Moon instead. He tells George to dream away the overpopulation that is leading to mass starvation, so a plague comes and kills billions of people... and so on.

It is a short book with interesting if confusing themes of Daoism and antipsychiatry, but I take issue with the way minorities are written, especially George's love interest, Heather. She is a biracial (Black and white) woman who dislikes having brown skin. When Haber tells George to dream away racism, everyone becomes gray. Gray Heather is "gentler." In the end, Heather becomes brown again and her personality becomes "fiercer" and "difficult" as a result. There were other odd things about her character but suffice to say, I don't like it.

@megamushroom ha i thought this was a joke when I first saw it I was like "yeah that is basically what psychiatry is they selectively diagnose based on how disruptive you are to the social order" and I was bewildered to learn that no it is real it is literally this explicit.

Banning under 16s from social media because "studies show social media causes xyz" is a perfect example of the mistake of individualizing social problems bleeding out from psychiatry to society at large

If social media makes people under 16 depressed have eating disorders or generally lose executive function or other effects like these its probably affecting a lot of people over 16 too.

I challenge you to think of anything we would lose in society by fixing this for everyone without blanket banning or surveillance
