France blocks Palestinian children’s book, cops raid bookshop

French authorities have triggered a major censorship controversy after moving to block the distribution of a Palestinian children’s colouring book and sending police to raid a Paris bookshop to seize copies, actions that the publisher and booksellers have called “an unprecedented attack on freedom of expression.”Social Bandit Media, the publisher of “From the River to the Sea: A Colouring Book,”has accused French authorities of censorship after the children’s book was effectively blocked from distribution in France following an adverse opinion issued by a government body.“From the River to the Sea,” by South African author and illustrator Nathi Ngubane, is an educational colouring book that offers young readers a gateway into the story of Palestine. Through a series of striking illustrations, the Soweto-based artist explores Palestinian history and culture, addresses the injustice of the Nakba, examines the ongoing Israeli occupation, and introduces key ideas that have shaped and sustained Palestinian resistance. In a press release, the publisher said it was informed on January 8, 2026, that the Commission for the Surveillance and Control of Publications for Youth (CSJP) had issued an “unfavourable opinion” on October 16, 2025, regarding the import and distribution of the book in France.Another excerpt:“On January 7, 2026, the Violette and Co bookshop-café was subjected to an irregular search aimed at seizing books. This is unprecedented in France and extremely worrying for the fundamental freedoms of bookshops,” the statement said.According to the shop, officers spent 45 minutes conducting a meticulous search of the premises. “Shelves were inspected, boxes of books opened one by one, storage rooms and the staff break room were searched,” it said, adding that the employees present were “shocked and powerless.”Describing the scene, the statement said, “Uniformed police officers, weapons at their belts, were filming the premises with body cameras and checking around thirty boxes of books in search of a title that was no longer in stock.”

StopAntisemitism Takes Credit for Getting Hundreds Fired. A Music Teacher Is Suing.

Known for targeting celebrities like Ms. Rachel, the pro-Israel blacklist also goes after private individuals who post in solidarity with Palestine.

Lewis is one of at least 400 people StopAntisemitism has taken credit for getting ousted from their jobs in its online crusade, which has drawn widespread attention for targeting more prominent figures — including right-wing pundit Tucker Carlson, progressive actor-turned-activist Cynthia Nixon, and the popular children’s educator Rachel Accurso, known by her stage name Ms. Rachel. Lewis, without her own platform or mass audience, is one of only two recent StopAntisemitism targets pursuing active federal lawsuits against the blacklist organization.Another excerpt:StopAntisemitism elevated its own profile by targeting Accurso, who has used her platform to advocate for Palestinian children who have been killed, wounded, or starved by the Israeli military in Gaza, especially after she posted videos with a Palestinian 3-year-old who had lost her leg. In April, StopAntisemitism requested that the Department of Justice investigate her for alleged ties to Hamas, despite no evidence of such connections, and this month named her a finalist for “Antisemite of the Year,” on a list that also included Carlson and Nixon. And another:Aside from Lewis’s suit, the only other active lawsuit against StopAntisemitism was filed by Abeer AbouYabis, a physician and former professor at Emory’s medical school, who was fired after the group doxxed her over a social media post expressing “hope” in a free Palestine and praising the “glory” of Palestinian “resistance fighters” on October 7.Unlike previous lawsuits, AbouYabis, who is an Arab Palestinian and Muslim, alleges discrimination based on race, religion, and nationality, as well as retaliation allegations under the American Disabilities Act. In a 213-page complaint, AbouYabis alleged Emory fired her while she was on medical leave for post-traumatic stress disorder after 37 members of her family were killed in the first month of Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza. The suit, originally filed in May, names the school, the Milsteins, StopAntisemitism, and Canary Mission, accusing Emory of collaborating with the latter two to silence AbouYabis’s protected speech. In a motion to dismiss the lawsuit, attorneys for the Milsteins did not deny its financial support for StopAntisemitism, but said the couple cannot be held liable “for the acts of these third party websites.”

In a shocking move, the Department of Justice has targeted activists in New Jersey in a new front in repression of the movement for Palestine and the Trump administration’s authoritarian offensive against the Left, workers, and social movements. The suit comes in response to a protest against a synagogue in West Orange being used to sell illegal Israeli settlements on occupied Palestinian land. The government is spinning what really happened, claiming the protesters were an antisemitic mob.The suit targets the Party for Socialism and Liberation, which has also been targeted by the state for their immigrant solidarity activism in California. The suit also targets American Muslims for Palestine, and includes several individual community activists. The federal government is suing these activists under the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act, or FACE Act, a piece of legislation designed to prevent anti-abortion protesters from keeping people seeking abortions from entering clinics. This is the first time the legislation has ever been used to target a protest outside of a place of worship. However, it must be reiterated that the activists were not protesting the practice of Judaism — they were protesting supporters of a genocidal regime auctioning off stolen land. It has been common for Zionists to hold events that normalize violence against Palestinians in Jewish community spaces, and use that as a way to misconstrue the intentions of pro-Palestine protesters, many of whom are Jewish themselves. These auctions for stolen Palestinian land in synogogues have been going on for a long time now. These synogogues are not being protested for Judaism, but for hosting this violently racist practice.

DOJ Charges Against New Jersey Palestine Activists Shows the Need for a Strong Campaign Against Repression - Left Voice

The Department of Justice has filed a lawsuit against New Jersey activists who protested illegal sales of stolen Palestinian land. The whole movement for Palestine needs to resist this new front in repression.
