The incredible extent that Google goes to try and prevent you from bulk deleting your data from their servers is incredible.
I'm currently battling the removal of my old Google Photos. They have rate-limits and other built-in processes to try and detect any automation to make the process easier for the end user.
Their UI sure as hell isn't designed to make this simple.

I am trying to backup not just the app, but all associated data (save progress, configurations, source code, binaries, everything) Data on these apps goes all the way back to 2009 or earlier.
I want this Samsung Galaxy S20 FE (almost 6 years old now) to be my final Android device.
Am I doing this right? Is my data bundled inside the APK/APK+ files? Are they installable (in a virtual machine, sometime in the future)
Android has been one of the 3 major hurdles I still can't cross to degoogle my life (the other 2 being YouTube, and Golang (which seems to be used on so many programs I use) GMAIL is a 4th hurdle, but it is a lot smaller. A lot of the apps are Internet based, and won't run, but I still value their preservation.

I want to degoogle my phone. I am running linux mint on my PC and i have a long term plan to degoogle my digital life from google, meta and microsoft. So next, smartphone. Currently looking for two options and saving money for it.

Volla phone running ubuntu touch
Anyone has any experience with either one? Are these devices and OS really in USERS controll? Can you uninstal and modify EVERYTHING?

And not to mention other outside world like work. I get work related info in whatsapp. Big company will not hear my whining about privacy and choice.
So to the surtain extend whatsapp will be still mandatory. So sad...
How ever, i am still going to use signal and will push its use for my friend groups.
But what to do about whatsapp? Leave it be? Erase somehow my acount and use another bullshit one? I really don't know at the moment.

So, even if I change to signal some of my friends won't. They don't see anything wrong with whatapp. They are happy little products to be mined for data and they know it. It is a choice and everyone has to have that right. If we where to mandate people to use surtain services we would not be any better than shitty corpos we try to avoid. Its all about choice.
My choice will ve Signal. But i don't want to lose contact just because of one service...

I have a plan to gradually faceout all meta and google from my day to day use. And eventually discord as well. And now i arrive at whatsapp vs signal.
I prefer signal due to its open source and anti corporate structure. Easy win right?
Not so fast. This is not my PC that is now running Linux mint, this is communication tool that is only good as people i communicate with. So in this case i am going to have to be signal evangelist đ

Since google always scans everything people put on google drive i won't be using it any more. Sure i can have my burner account with VPN and bullshit info about me so that i can download something other people will send me. But i won't put anything there my self.
In the end i don't even need cloud storage. If i havent made backups thats on me. Just good data managements and some hard drives on multible locations is good enough.
