Been intending for a while to ask if anyone has experience with using Lotrimin Ultra (butenafine) topically on dogs? K's been using an antifungal wipe on his ~crotch For A While. I added terbinafine (Lamisil AF), then added some hydrocortisone, then took it out. Now I want to try butenafine: it's supposed to be more comforting? Candida tropicalis is a important human pathogen that is increasingly resistant to azole antifungals. Although C. tropicalis was thought to be strictly diploid, this study shows that a widely used agricultural fungicide induces ploidy plasticity, leading to the formation of haploid cells that are cross-resistant to antifungal drugs.

A synthetic peptide mimic kills Candida albicans and synergistically prevents infection - Nature Communications

Fungal infections are severely underestimated as a cause of mortality, and alternative drugs are urgently needed. Here, Schaefer et al. show that a synthetic polymer mimicking defensins shows different, but synergistic activity with known antifungals.

Once a week rezafungin therapy for candidaemia and invasive candidiasis.

Looks mostly non - inferior to caspofungin.

But do we need once a week antifungal therapy? Most of these patients need close observation - look at mortality below. (tho there will rare exceptions for whom this is the perfect drug).
