Rollinia mucosa, formerly Rollinia deliciosa and still muy deliciosa for us, is a native #Amazon #rainforest #fruit tree that is widely adapted and (unlike many of its cultivated congeners) grows well in areas with a high water table. It sprouts up like a weed at #FincaDelSoul as the birds scatter seeds across the the landscape and aid us in the #reforestation effort and the stewardship of an abundant #FoodForest ecosystem. The fruit is more goopy than most of its Annona relatives, without well-defined carpels, and it has a very pleasant custardy texture with a sweet and slightly tangy flavour that is maybe something between cherimoya and caimito. Here our new friend and valued #volunteer is harvesting the last fruit of the season, about to enjoy a small sample of the deliciousness that is possible when we grow together with the forest and plant #TreesNotGrass.

Great fruit, great friends, great aspirations. Finca Del Soul is accepting volunteers to co-create a new paradigm of #SustainableLiving and #FoodFreedom here in the #AmazonRainforest and set a positive example that others can emulate.

Lots of ants, flies, and beetles have been showing up in the pawpaw patch. Apparently highly attractive to scorpionflies (Mecoptera), too, though I've yet to see them. #annonaceae #pawpaw #tree #plants #flies #ants #pollinators #flowers #insects

Why does this matter?
Understanding how these unique seeds develop can reveal how different reproductive strategies evolved in flowering plants and help preserve biodiversity in early-divergent lineages like Annonaceae. πŸŒΏπŸ“š(10/10)

Flower bud on one of my pawpaws (Asimina triloba). Blooms smell awful and are visited by flies and beetles. Fruit is amazing. #pawpaw #flower #bud #flowers #fruit #annonaceae #botany #tree

Sequential diversification with Miocene extinction and Pliocene speciation linked to mountain uplift explains the diversity of the African rain forest clade Monodoreae (Annonaceae)

AbstractBackground and Aims. Throughout the Cenozoic, Africa underwent several climatic and geological changes impacting the evolution of tropical rain forests
