Whatever the merits or otherwise of the comments reported in this article, if you are determined to have a dog in your life, one thing is absolutely necessary, you must give it as much love and consideration as you must your 5 year old child. If you do this, the rest is easy and training your dog will become a pleasurable and joyful experience.

If you get a dog to secure your home while you are away, shame on you. Would you leave a 5 year old at home alone while you’re away doing other things?

That is why I have never had a dog companion. I’ve got other things to do :)
