Today's #ArtAdventCalendar is another one of the #AnimalVignettes for the #VistionOfPlacidus. I'm feeling my way towards a painterly but textural approach to stitchery, trying to keep the stitching free, slightly ruffled. I'm rather pleased with this old #Brockis, with his intent look. He will lurk in the undergrowth in a very satisfactory manner!

For the #ArtAdventCalendar today, one of the #AnimalVignettes I am beginning to do in preparation for the next epic embroidery I am planning, "The Conversion of Placidus", inspired by Pisanello's "Vision of St Eustace", the Cluny Tapestries, and Elizabeth Goudge's "The Herb of Grace". It makes sense to me, I promise!

I'm feeling my way to a new way to embroider here, rather painterly and improvisational. So far, I'm pleased...!

I'm struggling a bit, today, not confident in my decision-making.

The Cat Smith is such a decided character, and I'm trying to bring him to life as best I can. I've done my best, but I I'm beginning to fear that if I do more it will just disintegrate.

I put in a few highlights, but maybe the thing to do is to leave well alone until he is placed on the final panel.

Progress has been made on The Cat Smith, but I just ran into a brick wall. I'm not sure what more to do, parts of the stitching are becoming congested and others are too thin, and it's difficult to work out what thread to use where.

Back to #TheCatSmith, one of the #AnimalVignettes for #VisionOfPlacidus. I thought I'd made a good start and then realised I had left him tailless!
In the book, Smith is a large and stately tabby, definitely with a tail..
Anyway, roughed in all over now, detailing next.
