If you're in a courtroom by yourself, no lawyer in sight, that's hard to do—just like a baseball team trying to play with no manager. (Maybe the umpire ejected him?)

If you're facing a debt collector in court, get someone on your side beforehand. Once a bad call comes, it may be too late.

No one's perfect, and when a legal call goes the wrong way, it can be tough to take.

That's why you have to know how to protect your case from bad calls, by preserving the record for an appeal.

Just last April, he called strikes on three straight pitches that were clearly outside the zone—one by more than six inches. It's the biggest miss ever recorded by an umpire.

Any fan who's watched baseball for more than a week probably has a "favorite" story about a missed call that cost their team the game.

The integrity of the game depends on having faith in the people who call the balls and strikes.

Just like when you're in the courtroom—your faith in the system depends on your belief that the judge will make the right call.

Last week, we lost an Angel.

No, nobody died. Just a retirement: notorious baseball umpire Angel Hernandez.

Hernandez was best known for making controversial calls at the worst possible times, deciding games or even pennants with calls that almost no one agreed with.

‘He’s a bad umpire’: Ángel Hernández’s greatest misses

Upon his retirement, a look at Ángel Hernández’s greatest misses as an MLB umpire.

The Washington Post

Angel Hernandez is appropriately named, considering what he's had to endure. Enjoy your retirement, and thank you for your forgiveness.

According to the article, "MLB and Hernández had spent the past two weeks negotiating a financial settlement before reaching a resolution over the weekend."

I don't know what settlement that is, but I'm reading that as MLB going, "Yo, Angel, if we give you this amount of money, will you then *please* go away?"

Angel's string of egregious-even-for-him calls this season might have been his ploy to squeeze a bigger payday out of MLB.
