I've put several species in the same #aquarium as they haven't been breeding.
so of course, after almost a year now; the albino #ancistrus finally gave us a batch of fry!
but then... the #kribs, which decidedly did not want to breed for a long time now, also decided to hatch the same day... in the same tank.
...and naturally, the #endlers which are there temporarily, also released fry today (nothing for 2 months).
because why not all do it at the same time! not at all a recipe for disaster!🙃
finally! it just took a year! +perfect timing! i'm in the middle of retooling my hobby. getting rid of everything except:
- #angelfish pair (230l tank)
- #kribs pair (54l tank)
- #bettas (6x 43l breeder tanks)
- #guppies (3x 110l tanks)
- #CPD (54l tank)
as well as #ancistrus, #neocaridina and #aquariumplants, to maximize gains per tank. these are all the best to breed for trade- always in demand. good prices. only missing #medaka and #espei. no space tho.
Last week I donated the pond fish (#medaka, #whiteclouds, and #notropis), today I donated the last batch of the tropical microfish (#sundadanio, #tetras) project. All that's left at home now are #guppies, #angelfish, #ancistrus, keyhole #cichlids, #corydoras and the old #kuhli loaches.
i'm not getting more corys or loaches; but they aren't disturbing any fish or eating fry so they get to stay.
will consolidate to just guppies, ancistrus, and #shrimp (neos) going forward. and my rare #plants :)
Please tell me this is finally a courtship display after all this time. They've been at it all day. I would love to have some fry to secure my population!
All other ancistrus color lines that were acquired at the same time as them were lost to various diseases and other issues :(
the L519 male and ancistrus sp. lemon blue-eye longfin female died shortly after I got them; i paired their counterparts together over a year ago and finally got 3 baby hybrids! they looks just like the L519 so far - maybe i will get some L519-looking longfins eventually!
The #blackout finally ended. 44 hours. Tonight would have been rough compared to yesterday since it's going to be -12°C and I wouldn't be able to pull another all-nighter keeping the fire alive.
The #aquarium tanks have somehow kept warmer than the #fishscrub itself and the last measure (just now) at 13°. I'm happy to announce all #guppies (and #ancistrus) alive; albeit incredibly sluggish. Heating the room at max now so hopefully temperatures will return to sanity by the morrow!
