Any enterprise, even very complex ones, that functions under the state can function cooperatively without the state. The only question is whether it would seem worth anyone's time to keep doing it if they weren't being forced.

The diamond/water paradox only seems like a paradox because economists mostly don't want to face the fact that the very existence of the economy relies on state-directed violence.
