Anaplasmosis is on the rise in eastern Canada. It's a tick-borne disease like Lyme, but presents a bit differently (e.g., no bullseye around the tick bite). Untreated, it can lead to kidney failure, brain swelling, and death.

I'm staying with a family member right now while she recovers from a nasty case of it (caught just in time to prevent permanent damage).

#NovaScotia, #Quebec, and #Ontario see about 500 cases a year of #Anaplasmosis, which is an infection contracted by humans and animals caused by the Anaplasma phagocytophilum bacteria and spread by #ticks. Treatment is the same as for Lyme disease, but the bites don't have the bull's-eye rash.
