My SCA Dossier
Who would have thought 30-some odd years ago, that I would have to keep a written record of the stuff I did regularly in the SCA. I don’t think it crossed any of our minds back then to write this stuff down! But here we are in year 60 of the organization and it is considered crucial for certain things (like throwing ones name in for consideration to become Baron or Baroness of a branch)!
Here is my first draft. I’m not really happy with it. I know it is missing stuff still. I don’t feel […]

Off to war!
Will be leaving tomorrow and beginning our trek to An Tir West War. We’ll start in Florence and then work our way to site. By Tuesday I will be on site and out of internet and cell contact for the rest of the week (there is basically zero service on site). I’ll have to remember to take pictures and post things when I get home!

Here is a link to my progress pictures of my block printing for a friends laureling cloak.

Now that it has been presented, I can share my progress pictures for the block printing I did for the lining of Morrghan O’Siodhachain laurel cloak. I have to admit, thinking through the layout and planning of print placement turned out to be more difficult than I expected. Trying to plot how to place each print so it looked mostly even and the wreath always pointed ‘up’ was a challenge. (I will note that all of the examples of circle cloaks I found with all over patterning - the placement of decoration were NOT evenly spread over the cloak by any means). I also discovered I needed a lot more table space than I thought to be able to spread it almost fully while I worked on it. The material is a white/cream colored silk. I used Speedball silver fabric printing ink. And the block was one of her own carving. This was the first time I’ve printed silk and in the future I would not use this kind of ink again. It needs heat setting and I could not get it hot enough for long enough without scorching the fabric. And the water-based Speedball fabric printing ink is more like paint than ink so getting the block loaded nicely was tricky. Over all it turned out pretty well imo. And it filled me with so much joy making it for one of my dearest friends!!! #MySCA #SCA #BlockPrinting #AnTir #Adiantum #Sewing #CostumeDesign
