I use to live 1 block off the Hyde St. Cable Car line & took routinely took it to/from Chinatown from Russian Hill.
As I recall, it only cost me 10 cents a ride as a student. The cable car operator use to let me hold on to the grip while it was running.
I haven't ridden one in decades. It wasn't as popular then as it was now. It was actually considered a basic means of transportation for locals.
It's just an #AmusementRide now anyway.
They charge $9 for a ride ($4 for seniors & zero for kids 4 & under). Uber is probably cheaper on a per head & distance basis. 🤷♂️

Gillian's Wonderland in Ocean City, NJ is closing at the end of this season and has been sold to a developer. The future of the 1926 PTC carousel is uncertain. I went this weekend to take some shots. I hope it can remain in Ocean City for many years and is not broken up and sold by the piece. 😟
