Amino being abruptly shut down with no warning is a form of libricide, just as much as any other book burning is.
They really went and committed MODERN LIBRICIDE. This is just as bad as the book burnings. Wiping out huge portions of history like this should NOT be legal. This should be considered a massive crime. The history of some entire subcultures are gone now...
Amino was more then a social media app, it was a wiki of fandoms from all across the world. Entire comics, books, and storys written by people from different walks of life, me included.
"Oh but its just a silly little fandom" i can hear you say, but NO. Its so much more then that. These are entire subcultures. Subcultures that were wiped out without so much as a warning.
On top of that, amino wasnt JUST a place for fandoms, there WERE aminos dedicated too minority groups, and unlike discord and tumblr it was easy too check through the community and hear the storys of others just like you, without having bad actors abusing tags.
While reddit does have a lot of the capability that amino did, reddit has its own problems [like getting karma, having your posts constantly taken down with no explanation, and the focus on anonymity as apposed too community] and regardless, we just lost a huge culturally significant part of the internet. Say what you want about amino as a app, but it was a library. Thats what i used it for. A library, one that allowed me too read up on whatever fandom i wanted without getting constantly suggested different subreddits too try and force me down a rabbit hole of drama. It wasnt a very good social media app, but it was a treasure trove of information, and its loss should not be taken lightly. Corporations should NOT be alloud too wipe out entire CULTURES like its NOTHING. We should call this what it is: ***modern libricide.*** We need too do something about this problem, and rise up as people, becouse this cant keep happening too our culture. Whats stopping other websites from doing the same? What if AOOO suddenly did the same thing? Worse yet. What if they held our CULTURE ransom unless we paid large sums of money? This cant be done.
FYI for all the victim blamers: i was trying too archive my community on amino, but a friend accidentally deleted the archive i made in a attempt too control me. I did plan for amino going down, but i was/am extremely depressed/demotivated, and with my entire archive gone and needing too be remade from square one, i had foolishly put scraping amino last on the list.
***They should have given us a f###ing warning before wiping out a huge portion of human and non human history.***
