Taking a long time to clear my head this morning and post on birds. May have to post a rant or two later.
A photographic failure today led to quite a bit of research and discovery about Pipits and relatives (Motacillidae Family). A small passerine that is well camouflaged for its habitat - tough to see, even when you are looking directly at it. Looking at the incredible range and variability of this Family worldwide, North America certainly lost out. with just the American Pipit (widespread) and Sprague's Pipit (limited to the Great Plains).
Worldwide there are 6 Genera and 70(!) species (Birds of the World). In North America, the American Pipit can be found from Mexico to Canada and Greenland. There are three recognized subspecies (pacificus, rubescens and alticola). This image may be of the latter subspecies.
