Amelia Island in Florida is a really cool place with 13 miles of free beach access along with a cool small-town feel in the historic district. Glad we stopped to check it out. We'll definitely be back again sometime!

A #Photograph of the #barracks of #Fort #Clinch. #FortClinch was a #brick fort built on the site of an earlier Spanish fort to help secure the #Florida and Georgia coasts.
The Confederacy seized the fort in 1861 and used it to shelter ships that ran the Union blockade on Confederate ports, but was forced to abandon the fort a year later, and Union troops reoccupied the fort and tightened the blockade.

Fort Clinch was completed in 1847, occupied by the Confederacy, which abandoned the fort after it became clear that then-current artillery easily punched through the fort’s #brick wall.
