One of our employee benefits at Amazon here in Seattle is the Amazon Spheres — a pretty wild workspace consisting of three interlocking spherical greenhouses holding an artificial cloud rainforest environment and a bunch of spaces for working.
I don’t work in the Spheres very often since it’s not terribly ergonomic (not the most comfortable lounge chairs and benches, no trackball, no big monitor, often loud) but it’s nice to try it briefly every once in a while. Mostly it’s an interesting touristy place to take guests when they’re in town. (Definitely saw a lot of employee parents getting a tour but also groups of clients being impressed or something.)
It’s summer break so kiddo wanted to join me at work. He worked on a Pulp game, doodled in his journal, played some solitaire (with an actual deck of cards, unlike when I used to play Windows solitaire when tagging along to my mom’s office), and played some No Man’s Sky (Creative Mode) while I worked and soaked up the background greenery.
Gotta keep that sprint velocity upGoofing off in The NestChecking out the Canopy WalkAmazed by The Plant WallWe of course had lunch together and took breaks to explore the various plant displays again.
A tiny babbling brook among the undergrowthAs a bonus, there was a small exhibit of tiny trees on loan from the Pacific Bonsai Museum… which has now been added to our summer goals.
