I saw a message that said I was given 10 free pings on top of the pings that I did not get while Feeld was crashing and burning. (Newsflash: it is still crashing and burning.)

The math is off, I got a total of 11 new pings (and ended up with 12 pings), but I know that I had more than one ping that was owed to me so 1 (the one ping I already had) + > 1 +10 should be > 12.

I'm imaging this is what happened behind the scenes at Feeld's HQ.

Alice: Shit! Customers are complaining that they're not getting their free pings. What shall we do?

Bob: Er... damn... it looks like the update process partially ran. It is going to be hard to know which accounts were affected.

Alice: How about we give everyone ten pings? That ought to cover it!

Bob: Brilliant. This way, we won't have to waste time figuring out what we owe to whom.

CEO: People have been complaining about not getting their free pings. What's the solution?

Bob: We're going to give everyone 10 pings. Easy-peasy.

CEO: Okay, I'll write up a little message to our customers.

CEO's message: We're sorry we haven't given you your free pings. To make up for it, you get 10 extra pings on top of those we owed you. [Clicks send.]

Alice: Er... boss.

CEO: Yes.

Alice: It is 10 pings *total* on top of the one ping we can be sure that everybody did not get. It is not 10 pings on top of what we owed them.

CEO: Can we claw back my message?

Bob: Nope.

CEO:  I don't understand. We cut corners. We skipped testing. It should have improved our bottom line, but now we have a dumpster fire on our hands. How did this happen? I should be awash in bonuses now!

The article says that according to an employee of Feeld it's been a "complete shitshow."

I also learn from this article that they fired their customer service team three months ago to replace them with outsourcing.

I've reported three bugs to Feeld and can confirm that the canned responses that don't address my problem are what I got back.

This is #enshittification. The bottom line had to be improved, so corners were cut, and now they pay for it.
