A post mentioned the Incan Empire and wondered in passing how they might have survived. Which made me think of an #AltHist novel I read about that, but couldn't recall the title of. (I thought the author was Robert Silverberg, but it turned out to be Fred Saberhagen and The Mask of the Sun.)

Interestingly, when I searched Uchronia·com for "inca", it also turned up H. Beam Piper's "Last Enemy", which has nothing to do with the Incas. Took me a moment to realize the search was picking up on a big part of the story, when one group on a Second Level world scientifically proved that reINCArnation was real. #ScienceFiction

Uchronia also listed a dozen other novels and half as many shorter works, and I might try to dig some up. #SciFi #AlternateHistory

Re-watching Season 1 of The Pitt in the Thai dub and it is so epic, it might be my preferred way to watch the show from now on. Though I must say, the Portuguese dub was pretty damn good too, and I am actually learning the language, so I was able to follow along a lot easier.

So, in this alternate timeline, "The Pitt" actually refers to Phitsanulok, the 10th largest city in Thailand, located in the northern province of the same name. Why are so many of the staff and patients "Farang" then? Umm...yeah...I haven't figured that one out yet. 🤔

The other weirder alternate timeline is the one where it's still in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA but everyone's speaking in Thai instead of English? Like what happened there. Same pop cultural references, same historical references but in Thai.

In 387 BC, the Sennones seize their momentum and utterly obliterate Rome, also doing lots of damages to the socii. Then a massive cholera outbreak devastates the Italian peninsula, impeding the rise of political and miliatary powers.

Western Europe remains Celtic. Can the Maccabees win without Roman backing? Perhaps modern right-wingers idolise Carthage as the source of all good things.

So much #AlternateHistory has a Euramerican point of divergence. Here's a free idea for an untapped vein.

In 230 BC, a lucky arrow hits Ying Zheng , killing him, and so Qin fails to conquer Han. The Warring States never properly unify (at least until the Mongols come along), so instead of China, there are a bunch of kingdoms with related but distinct cultures. The fall of the Zhou in th east is remembered similarly to the disintegration of the Western Roman Empire.
