Allegheny Portage trail. The photo with the tracks is at the engine house. The others are down the hill on Old Route 22; there're a few miles of gravel. My favorite part of the trip was the Allegheny Portage Railroad historic site. This is an engine house that hauled trains up the steep hill like a funicular back in the 1830s. 1850s technologies (see Horseshoe Curve not too far away) made this place obsolete. #pennsylvania #appalachia #allegheny #railroad #monochrome #blackandwhite #photography #darktable

Pittsburgh is located within the Alleghenies of the Appalachian Mountains, at the confluence of the Allegheny River and the Monongahela River and the source of the Ohio River. Appalachian Rail Trails Dec 2

This is one of the most scenic, photogenic rail trails I've ever ridden. It's a very relaxing, mostly paved ride, which makes it easily ADA accessible. There are two incredible tunnels and some amazing bridges along the way which I'll post later. Long story short, western #Pennsylvania is doing amazing things with their #railtrails.

#yinz know, I think, my preference in the recent #democrats primary for mayor of #Pittsburgh where our first black mayor was given the boot for a white nepo kid, but I do plan to vote for Corey O'Connor. I'm just saying, if on Nov. 4, we lose the PA Supreme Court, because African-American turnout in #Allegheny County cratered, I am totally going to hold it against him for, like, as long as he is in public life.

I wonder how universal a bus pass would be here in #aliquippa. I think that's in #Beaver county, IIRC, but suppose I need to go to #Allegheny county? Thinking about getting out of the apartment sometimes.
