He was a brilliant designer, yet his contributions remain largely unknown. Thanks to #allardpierson for facilitating access to the archives.

Already laid out for presentation shortly: large manuscript leaf by Lieven van Coppenol, 1657. He was certainly not the best Dutch calligrapher of his time, had serious mental problems, but was portrayed by Rembrandt, and famous literati wrote poems in praise of him. Coll. Allard Pierson, UvA.
