NOW PLAYING: Allan Sherman - "The Twelve Gifts of Christmas"

#Music, #AllanSherman, #Christmas

Went from laughing at Allan Sherman's glib parody songs to listening to an awkward but powerful antiwar speech he gave at UCLA in 1970. I had no idea.

It's undeniably summertime and so for this week's #StupidAccordionTrick we return to #AllanSherman revisiting his own memories of summer camp. When we last saw him, he was having a terrible time at #CampGranada -- now, one year later, he can't get enough of the place. From 1964, here's his #ReturnToCampGranada.

I was never a big fan of the young #MartinMull. I thought the songs of #RayStevens & #AllanSherman were funnier. Mull's musical recordings were unusually #sardonic for the times, but I found his later on-screen character performances to be repellent & smarmy. I finally took a shine to him in his #curmudgeon phase on the ultimately surreal #Til Death and the second #Ellen.

I #Hope2C #CBS finally make those last unaired episodes free to view.

That crazy album promo could remind one of the empty store scene in #SpinalTap, which included his almost partner, #FredWillard. More than likely this promo would have occurred in at least a half dozen cities back in early 70s. Therefore there could still be tens of thousands of his early #Boomer fans that could supply some further details.

I thought he might have possibly made a note about the promo somewhere.
I thought he'd remember it for sure because R said he'd performed his memorable #TiptoeThruTheTulips #TinyTim impression

"Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh! (A Letter from Camp)" is a #noveltySong recorded by #AllanSherman released in 1963. The melody is taken from the ballet #DanceOfTheHours from the opera #LaGioconda by #AmilcarePonchielli, while the lyrics were written by Sherman and #LouBusch. Allan based the lyrics on letters of complaint which he received from his son Robert who was attending Camp Champlain, a #summerCamp in #Westport, #NewYork. In 2020.

Happy Weekend

It's been a wild week, for some.
I've been in or through a few storms, an earthquake, air delays and cancelled flights... finally made it to a nice calm land of gators & Burmese pythons.

"I used to love travel. Now I love visiting, *traveling* not so much"

It stopped raining today, temps low 70s going up to low 80s.

"Gee that's better"... Reminded of this:
