Toimittajalle näköjään yllätys, että voittoa tavoittelevasta marketista ostettu #viinipullo voi olla kalliimpi kuin valtio-omisteisesta viinakaupasta. Ei mikään talouden laki sano sitä, että #Alko:n pullon on oltava kalliimpi ja että se tai'anomaisesti olisi halvempi marketissa. Ylipäätään on hyvä muistaa, että vain näistä toisen tahon hintapolitiikkaan valtiovallalla on suoraa sananvaltaa omistajaohjauksen kautta.

Miedon markettiviinin hinta oli iso yllätys, kun sitä vertasi Alkon vastaavaan tuotteeseen

Helena Petäistö löysi tutun valkoviinin lähimarketista, jonka valikoimiin se alkoholilain uudistuksen myötä on päässyt. Sitten paljastuikin yllätys, joka saa hänet hakemaan pullon seuraavalla kerralla tutusti ”viinakaupasta”.

Alko is experimenting with discounting expiring beer to reduce its waste/environmental impact. Sounds great, however, the impact is questionable, -20% is closer to where the actual price of beer should be in Finland, and certain brands don't sell for many reasons.

Perhaps it's time to reevaluate buying, pricing, and marketing techniques to avoid the need to discount or destroy beer. (I was also a record/game buyer in a previous life. Hit me up.)

#Finland has a wonderful tradition of #berryWine that is all but forgotten by the mainstream. Indeed the state monopoly, #Alko, has an extensive selection of regular #wine, but almost no #Finnish berry wines.

I actually preferred this red, by #Pihamaa, to most red wines (but that’s because the heavy tannins give me a headache), and it worked well with our #Easter meal. You can also get heavier berry wines.

On the left you can see a #sparklingWine, also by Pihamaa, made from #buckthorn.

I’d like to celebrate the New Year by supporting a Finnish vineyard and their sparkling wine. But to do that I’d have to travel a couple hundred kilometres to buy from the vineyard. #Alko has nothing available at all. The only sparkling berry wine on their list is from the #Valamo monastery and thats pricey and not available anywhere off the shelf.

#Finland has its own native traditions (of which little is known) of making #wine out of berries. Even the common word for currants, viininmarja (related to Swedish vinbär or wineberry), hints at their use. The industry all but died out but was reborn from a change in laws some decades ago. You think the local tradition would be celebrated by the state alcohol monopoly #Alko (the only place you can buy >8% alcohol drinks), but alas no. There is hardly anything available.
