Red is
#poem by #AliceEnamour

Red is the colour
of the living blood,
and of the flood
when it carries the mud.
The colour of passion
and also of anger.
The colour of danger
but also of the
blushing maiden.
Red is the colour
of the setting sun.
The saving fire
by night, but also of
the forest burning.
The colour of my
party dress,
and of my dancing shoes,
And of the ribbons
on my hair
when I was a child.

Red is the name
of the narrow sea
dividing Africa and Asia,
And also the colour
of luck for the Chinese.
First sound of the word
ready, and first letters
of the word redeem.
Red is the corn cob,
I was told,
that forces you to reveal
your chosen one
when comes to you
in the threshing.
The colour of the rose,
of the radish,
and of the cherries,
which are earrings
for the daughters
of the poor.

Red are roses and
the bullfighter's cape,
the colour both
of love and peril.
the colour I dye my hair
to look smarter.
Also the colour
of blue Litmus paper
when the solution
is acidic.
Red is the colour
of tree leaves
in autumn,
but also the colour
of poppies in spring.
The colour of dresses
of cardinals and kings,
but also of the
peasant women
of Russia and Sardinia.

The 1st story on my book, exclusively shared here on beige.party

The psychologist with the bearded dragon pet

One of the first people I interacted with in my current instance of the mastodon social network was someone who identify as a clinical psychologist. She also says that she has a bearded dragon (also called a ‘beardie’) at home as a pet, and even created an account for the animal on the social network.

It turns out that I have a best friend from high school, with whom I got back in touch after my university years. She is extremely funny, in fact so funny that she is often invited to perform in stand-up comedy shows. And that’s a good thing because otherwise she wouldn’t be able to put up with her husband, who is a psychiatrist in a hospital for the mentally ill. I seldom visit them because the man has the house full of ‘perpetual’ motion toys. When he leaves for work she stops them all, when he gets home from work he sets them all in motion. On the weekend, she either persuades him to go out with her or, if he insists on staying at home, she spends the day out with her friends, shopping or whatever.

On one of these weekends he didn’t want to go out we went for tea together, as we do from time to time. I told her about the psychologist with the bearded dragon.

“And the ‘beardie’ is a female,” I added laughing.

“You’re making that up because you know I capitalise on those kinds of stories for my stand-up comedy act, don’t you?”

“Cross my heart it’s true.”

“Well, you don’t usually lie, I believe you. And come to think of it, that’s the sort of thing a psycho… a psycho… a psychologist would have as a pet.”

I couldn’t hold back a loud laugh and everyone in the room stared at us.

Alice remembers

Twenty-two short stories told in the first person, almost all of which are more or less funny. The themes are varied, with a predominance of university life and surfing.

' “As you did not have tea, I prepared a strong meal… and wasting good food is a crime, I will serve you a ‘teanner’ (‘tea’ + ‘dinner’, a word composed in the same way as ‘brunch’, invented by her, as far as I know)”, said Helen beginning to bring food and more food. '

“I’m not sad just because of Snoop. I realized our mortal condition and I was terrified. Hold me, caress me, kiss me. Don’t leave me alone… ever,” she finished sobbing harder.
Sarah was no longer a girl and was now in her second year of studying Psychology. She had been confronted with the death of a loved one and remembered my age. That’s why she panicked.
“Our finitude is very difficult to accept, but ending as Snoop ended is an extraordinary fact. Think he had time to socialize with the children, and they had the privilege of getting to know him. And finally he needed to rest, in peace.”
