Per our AI overlords: Our Mohegan/Pequot/Narragansett languages are no longer continuous, but their closest living relative is Passamaquoddy‑Maliseet (Wolastoqey). Its grammar and vocabulary run nearly parallel to our heritage tongue, and free online resources with fluent speakers make it a strong path for reconnection.

…The Algonquin people had a word for this mental illness…Wétiko” ..“greed.”  ... Dante, Shakespeare, Gogol, Balzac, and Dickens, all wrote of wealthy characters who disrupted society because of their own Hoarding Disorders…America was not only on the path to becoming a “we society”: we were more than halfway there…But then came Ronald Reagan with his neoliberal “me society” sales pitch that “greed is good”…

Top of the pops on my website this week is my accidental growing of the massively poisonous and hallucinogen Datura stramonium or devil’s snare! A fascinating plant in #mythology and #folklore the world over but not one to have with a family around.

Hallucinogenic devil's snare or Datura stramonium - MandyCanUDigIt

Pride comes before a fall and my unidentified exotic plant is actually the very toxic and hallucinogenic devil's snare or Datura stramonium.

I used to bake all the time. Now I rarely do. Today I baked a #PumpkinPie with a recipe I developed over a decade ago. I used #Algonquian #Pumpkins, a variety which predates #colonization and originates from the eastern coast of North America. I grew them myself. Here’s my #recipe in case you’d like to try it out. https://shanmonster.dreamwidth.org/319212.html #Baking #KitchenWitch #IndigenousFoodWays #pie

The #Mexican #Kikapú people ( #Kickapoo in #English) hail originally from Michigan but migrated to the State of #Coahuila (North #Mexico) in 1850. Their name stems from the word „kikaapoa“, which means „those who roam the land“.  The 500 Kikapús speak the only (and endangered) #Algonquian language in Mexico and are related to the Kickapoo tribes in Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas.
