When Alexei Leonov became the first human to go on a spacewalk, his suit ballooned up so much in the vacuum of space that he was unable to get back inside the airlock. Luckily he was an iron-jawed space-hero type, so he manually bled air from his suit until the pressure dropped and he could fit back in. He gave himself the bends, but he survived the EVA.

"Alexei Leonov, a Soviet-era cosmonaut who was the first human to conduct a spacewalk in 1965, died Friday in Moscow aged 85, his assistant said. "He died today in Moscow at the Burdenko hospital after a long illness," Natalia Filimonova told AFP."
