"Best" of 2025
Despite <gestures vaguely into the ether>, I have had much to be grateful for. I live in a beautiful place but way too far away from my family living in Anchorage. I had the extreme privilege of spending many days with them in #AK in 2025. One magical moment was peeping the normally shrouded #Aleutian chain and seeing the majesty of the #Iliamna volcano.
Here's to a #HappyNewYear2026

Freaking 8.8??? Damn.

I'm hoping the people (not many, but I know some folks do) that live on/work out in #Kamchatsky Peninsula and the distant ends of the #Aleutian Islands are okay and not in too horrible a state of shock right now; idek how it must have felt.

I hope the tsunami doesn't cause terrible damage around the pacific but... an 8.8 is *a lot* of power for the ocean to disperse. Stay safe, y'all. And stay away from beaches and low ground for the next few hours.

Ash is currently being produced and is drifting to the east below the cloud deck of 27,000 ft above sea level. The Aviation Color Code and Volcano Alert Level is being raised to RED/WARNING. Recent significant ash events during the current eruption resulted in ash clouds with heights up to 40,000 ft (12 km) above sea level. These events can occur with little warning. It is also possible that ash emissions may occur at a lower-level, steady state and be sustained for many hours. AVO is monitoring the volcano closely and will issue additional Volcanic Activity Notices to provide notice of significant changes in activity as they occur. Shishaldin activity page:
