Edward Smith Deevey Jr. (3 December 1914 – 29 November 1988), born in #AlbanyNewYork, was a prominent American #ecologist and #paleolimnologist, and an early protégé of #GEvelynHutchinson at #YaleUniversity. He was a creative pioneer in several areas, including quantitative #palynology, cycling of natural #isotopes, #biogeochemistry, #populationDynamics, #systematics and #ecology of freshwater #zooplankton, and he promoted the use of life tables in ecology. In 1938.

More from the backlog, October 26, 2024, NY state capitol, Albany. Story: there was an Amtrak promotion of getting 2x the points if I traveled before Oct 31, so I took the offer to visit Albany. My original plan was to take the 7:15 am train and do a 60 mile bike ride around Albany. But I mis-remembered the time and missed the train. Then I took the next train at 10:15 am, so I did not have enough time to ride 60 miles after getting there. Fall colors were already past their prime in Albany.
